So the Municipal Library is aimed not only at an audience of scholars; since the seventies it has effectively become a service which is open to the whole community, with useful books to satisfy different needs and the most varied interests, including those of children.
The library is organised on four levels:
Semi-basement floor: storage, media library with a projection room, television room, both shared with the Museum, museum entrance, two exhibition rooms.
Ground floor: Reference, Archaeological Museum, Santa Monica study room, Info Point, Back Office, Internet Point (Sala San Valentino) with three computer stations and multimedia station.
First floor: Children’s Library, Fiction and storage room.
Second floor: ancient “Biblioteca Manicone” library (sixteenth, seventeenth century, etc.), modern library, history of the region and foreign literature (English, French, German).
The needs are manifold: from reading newspapers and periodicals, to local and interlibrary loans, to meeting places.
The flagship of the Library, the collection or the volume which embellishes it, is undoubtedly the bibliographic units of the Ancient Library, enhanced by the volume: AMBROSII CALEPINI DICTIONARII OCTOLINGVIS ALTERA PARS, M. DC. LXIII CUM PRIVILEGE REGIS, which is of great historical and cultural significance.
